Roofing warranties

Limited Lifetime Warranty:

BASIC COVERAGE

Knowing what is covered

About 10 years ago most major shingle manufacturers changed their warranties from 30, 40 or 50 year warranties to limited lifetime warranties. Like earlier warranties these warranties pro-rate from 100% coverage in the first year to only 20% in year 50. To “sweeten” the warranty manufacturer’s cover both labor & material for the first 10 years, after which only material is covered.

It doesn’t matter where you buy your shingles or who installs them. You can buy them from Home Depot and install them yourself, or hire a certified roofer to install them. All shingles come with this basic warranty: Prorated coverage from year 1 to year 50 with 20% coverage remaining from year 50 for as long as you own the home.

One critically important thing to note: Labor & material coverage DOES NOT cover any of your roof if the workmanship of your installation is improper. If your roof is installed wrong – you have NO WARRANTY on labor OR material.

Extended your warranties

Roofing Contractors who are certified roofing installers are enabled to register extended warranties with the manufacturer. There are several benefits to this:

  • Ensure that most of the products on your roof are manufactured by the same company
  • Ensure that the installer is familiar with manufacturer specifications and install requirements
  • Manufacturers hold roofing contractors accountable for quality
  • Ensures that the roofing contractor will go online and register each roof installed with the manufacturer – creating a paper trail

Manufacturer's Registered System Warranty:

50 Years Non-Prorated Coverage

With a System Warranty you receive 50 years of non-prorated coverage – which will cover 100% of the cost of labor, material, tear-off and disposal of your roof if it fails in the next 50 years – as long as it was installed correctly.

Manufacturer's WORKMANSHIP Warranties:

You are covered even if your roofer installs it wrong.

Workmanship you can trust

The big EXCEPTION on any roofing warranty is WORKMANSHIP. If your new roof fails in the future because it was installed wrong – they can walk away and you have no warranty. This is terrible.
About 10 years ago manufacturers stepped up. They decided to work in close partnership with roofers who prove themselves over time – and maintain the highest standards.

Manufacturers allow roofers like RoofTek® – who are certified at the highest levels – to register a Manufacturer’s Workmanship Warranty. This warranty states that even if your roofer installed the roof wrong – the manufacturer is responsible for your roof – and the WORKMANSHIP, no questions asked.

10, 25 and even 50 years of manufacturer registered workmanship warranties are available at RoofTek®.
